  • BENITEZ: LIMITED FUNDS NOT NEW

BENITEZ: LIMITED FUNDS NOT NEW Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has long worked at St James Park with a tight budget and the Spaniard insists the club have what it takes to achieve their main target - staying in the Premier League. "I was talking with Lee Charnley this week, that is normally the person who I normally talk about business with. It was a normal conversation, nothing special," Benitez said. "I was talking with Steve Nixon today, the head of recruitment, and not talking about January. I don’t know my budget but it is not a problem. "I’m used to working without big money in all my teams – not Liverpool, not Chelsea and not even at Real Madrid were we spending big money. We were still achieving something."I have confidence we can do it with this group of people, with this staff and these players. We can achieve what we want to achieve, which at the moment is to stay up."

  • 'I COULD STILL BE AT EVERTON'

'I COULD STILL BE AT EVERTON'Wayne Rooney believes he would still be an Everton player had he not dropped into midfield midway through last season.“I remember looking at the situation with the manager [Sam Allardyce],” Rooney recalled in an interview with the Men In Blazers. “It became more apparent that the team would play better, move forward and win more games with me playing in midfield.“Doing what I've done most of my career and putting the team first I went back into midfield but I believe if I'd stayed as a striker, I probably would have reached the 20 goal mark and all of a sudden people would talk differently.“I enjoyed my time there. I would obviously liked it to have lasted a bit longer and the club on their own made decisions which was a bit difficult to take.”
