  • BAYERN BLAST 'DEGRADING' MEDIA CRITICISM

BAYERN BLAST 'DEGRADING' MEDIA CRITICISMBayern Munich chiefs have shocked German media in an unexpected news conference, announcing they will no longer accept "degrading" criticism of their players. The last-minute scheduling of a media briefing with three of the club's key figureheads - president Uli Hoeness, chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic - sparked reports of a major announcement on Friday. Speculation that Arsene Wenger was set to return to football at the club mounted, with head coach Niko Kovac having come under pressure following a run of four games without a win. But Bayern defended Kovac and launched a surprise rant against the treatment of Bayern Munich's players following back-to-back defeats for the Germany national team against France and the Netherlands. • DORTMUND TO TARGET PL YOUNGSTERS

DORTMUND TO TARGET PL YOUNGSTERS Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc admits they are keeping an eye on young players from top Premier League clubs after the success of Jadon Sancho. The 18-year-old joined Dortmund from Manchester City last summer and has been in fine form this season, notching eight assists and one goal in 10 appearances so far. That form led to Gareth Southgate naming the teenager in his squad for the Nations League during the recent international break, with Sancho making his senior England debut in the 0-0 draw with Croatia last Friday. Now Zorc says scouting talented youngsters who are not getting a great deal of game time with their Premier League clubs will be part of their transfer strategy in the future. "Until now it has nearly been out of the question for us to be able to transfer players from England to Germany," he said. "I think there is a big opportunity out there to source highly talented young players - in particular at the absolute top clubs. Due to the financial power of the English clubs, they often buy a top class player into their squad. Therefore young players cannot break through, which is different to how things are done in Germany. Of course we will keep our eyes open in the future, too."

  • HOWE: NO SPURS CONTACT FOR AKE

HOWE: NO SPURS CONTACT FOR AKE Eddie Howe has confirmed no approach has been made by Tottenham for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake. Sky Sports News understands Tottenham are closely monitoring Ake as they scout for future defensive reinforcements. Ake has impressed since joining Bournemouth from Chelsea in 2017 and his profile ticks a number of boxes for Spurs' recruitment staff, notably that he fits their need to add home-grown players for their squad. "I think that's a compliment to Nathan and how he's played since he signed for us permanently," Howe told Sky Sports when asked about the links. "He's been a model of consistency. He picked up all the player awards that he did at the end of last season and he's carried that form into this [season]. With any type of speculation that you are linked with, the clubs he's been mentioned with, it's a good sign. However, that doesn't mean we're about to lose him. He's a massive part of what we're doing. "[There has been] nothing from our side, where it comes from I don't know. It's inevitable [to be linked] when the team is doing well people will naturally highlight our players, potential players who can go on and play at a higher level. I look at it as a compliment to the team. It certainly won't disrupt Nathan, knowing how level-headed he is. For him he's such a good personality it won't affect him in any way."
