Liverpool made it four wins from their opening four Premier League games in Saturday’s early kick-off against Leicester City, coming away from the King Power with a 2-1 win to their names.
However, the Reds didn’t have it all their own way and they had their massively over-confident goalkeeper, Alisson, to thank for that.
Indeed, the Brazilian, attempting a repeat of last week’s flouncy footwork, got snarled up half way through a Cruyff turn, got his pocket picked inside his own 18-yard box and watched on helplessly as Rachid Ghezzal poked the ball into his vacant net…
Once again, Jurgen Klopp was quick to defend his flamboyant goalkeeper after the final whistle:
I said to him (Alisson) it’s the best game to do it in because we still won! We learn from it.
I told the boys we shouldn’t use him (for back-passes) in the wrong moments – he is not a solution for us, he is an option.
Hopefully Senhor Becker has learned his lesson this afternoon.
Not sure how many more potentially crucial clangers he will be allowed to get away with before he goes the way of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.
